——Daniel Williams

——Tom Ulmet

“ALL IN”的啟明星

——Melissa Warehall

——Janice Stewart-Yates

——Stacy Andell

On March 14th and 15th, the past weekend,

our Beigao Campus was brimming with energy ——

Educators from nearly 40 schools across China—including Dulwich College Beijing, International School of Beijing, Tsinghua University High School International Division, Keystone Academy, and Avenues Shenzhen—gathered at Daystar for the 2026 NESSIC Bilingual School Conference.

Centered around the theme ofConnect·Inspirie·Empower, nearly 150 participants came together to exchange ideas and explore new, personalized educational philosophies and approaches.

  • NESSIC is a non-profit organization empowering private bilingual schools in China.

  • Since its establishment two years ago, more than 30 schools have joined it.

  • Daystar Academy is one of the co-founders of NESSIC.

  • And Dr Daniel Williams, the Executive Head of Schools at Daystar Academy, serves as the Founding President of its Advisory Board.

| Words from the Guests |

"In recent years, Daystar Academy's influence in China has been steadily growing, partly because we have taken a leading role in building school networks (such as NESSIC). At the same time, our teachers are increasingly sharing insights and conducting workshops at conferences across China and Asia.

There are many topics at this conference that interest me. But as a school leader, what I care about most are the industry trends: the number of bilingual schools, their development momentum, how they are evolving, and what curriculum content and standards they are adopting. This conference brings together many experts in these areas."

——Daniel Williams, Executive Head of Schools, Daystar Academy & Founding President of the NESSIC Advisory Board

"Every teacher, every school leader, and every foreign professional coming to China believes in the value of professional development and strives to excel in their work. This is where NESSIC plays an enormous role. As an organization focused on professional development, NESSIC provides a platform for exchange and communication."

——Tom Ulmet, Chief Executive Officer, NESSIC

"It is a changing world, a changing China including that we are now in the so-called AI era. As educators, what role should we play. We should not only avoid being replaced but also we must exert our initiative.

So mainly I want to share with you through history, the current situation and the understanding of language development. So that everyone can play a role to work together to change or shape a better future for language education."

——Dr. Pan Lin, Associate Professor, Vice-chair of English Department, at Beijing Normal University & Keynote Speaker, NESSIC Conference

Daystar Academy:

All In for the Conference

This was the first time Daystar Academy hosted a large-scale national education conference, and the school's frontline teachers participated with great enthusiasm.

It is this long-standing open attitude and continuous exchange that keeps our community inspired and equipped with new knowledge and motivation.

"I presented at two workshops: the first one with Zoe Liu from a high school in Shanghai. We were delighted to share the differences between recommendation letters for universities in the US and the UK with everyone. The audience asked many excellent questions.

The second workshop I participated in was with Francis Miller from a high school in Xi'an. We discussed professional ethics in university counseling, covering both communication with students and collaboration with universities."

——Dr. Melissa Warehall, Director of College Counseling, Daystar Academy

"My presentation focused on trauma-informed education. Many people told me they were glad to see a new perspective emerging in education: the trauma-informed perspective - one that truly focuses on building connections and relationships, creating a supportive learning environment for students, and enabling them to fulfill their full potential."

——Janice Stewart-Yates, Elementary English Teacher, Daystar Academy

"This presentation was a great opportunity for me to share some of the teaching methods we use at Daystar.

These methods are aligned with the science of reading and can help all multilingual learners develop their reading skills effectively."

——Dr. Stacy Andell, Executive Elementary School Principal, Daystar Academy Sanlitun Campus

Our students and parents also took part in the conference.

Bayan Changizi and Jihan Huang, Grade 11 students, delivered keynote speeches. Carson Yuan, a Grade 10 student, represented Daystar at the student panel.

The students spoke with poise and confidence that was truly inspiring.

Other students took on roles as greeters and hosts, and they performed the opening show together with parents.

The warm and welcoming community atmosphere left a profound impression on all the guests.

"I have visited hundreds of schools around the world. What impresses me most is that Daystar Academy truly understands what a community is.

From the wonderful atmosphere on campus in the early morning, to the amazing opening show by parents at this conference, and then to the two insightful student presentations, all of these fully demonstrate that Daystar Academy has truly united teachers, parents and students to build a genuine and warm school community."

——Greg Smith, Vice President- International School Services (ISS) & Special Board Advisor: NESSIC
