事發時，在Hibiscus Coast海灘北端，有人看到挖掘機正在移開巖石，救援人員與不斷上漲的潮水“賽跑”。有目擊者稱，當時“海水已經拍打到巖石邊緣了。他們小心地移開石塊，最終成功將狗救出。”

新西蘭消防與應急部門于下午1點剛過接到報警，并派出一輛消防車和三名消防員前往現場。一名發言人表示，現場動用了兩臺附近的挖掘機協助移開巖石，消防人員抵達約30分鐘后成功將狗救出。

另一名目擊者稱，當時情況一度變得非常危急。“隨著潮水上漲，一度看起來幾乎沒有希望，但最終在堅持不懈的努力下，加上第二臺工程車輛的協助，他們成功將狗安全交還給主人。”
目擊者表示，這次事件“險象環生”，當狗被救出的那一刻，現場所有人都歡呼起來。
