據央視新聞，當地時間3日，兩名美國官員證實，美軍一架A-10型攻擊機當天在霍爾木茲海峽附近墜毀，飛行員只有一人，已獲救。這是美軍當天發生的第二起戰機墜毀事件。
此后伊朗軍隊公共關系部門通報稱，當天在霍爾木茲海峽附近的南部海域，伊朗國家綜合防空網絡通過跟蹤監控，成功擊落一架美軍A-10攻擊機。伊方稱該架戰機屬于“侵略性敵方力量”。
