春分
![]()
The Spring Equinox, the fourth solar term, marks equal day and night and balanced cold and warmth. It is both a natural turning point and a carrier of traditional Chinese culture.
The Spring Equinox usually falls on March 20th or 21st each year. On this day, the sun shines directly on the equator, making day and night equal in length—each lasting exactly 12 hours. The Chinese character “分” (fēn) has two meanings: “equal division of day and night” and “division of the seasons.” The Spring Equinox falls right in the middle of spring, dividing the season into two halves.
知春 Learning about Spring

After class, students actively researched information about the Spring Equinox. Based on their understanding of its origin, phenological features and traditional customs, they created bilingual hand-copied newspapers, painting playful scenes of "Spring arrives, all things come to life." Through this creative process, they deepened their understanding of solar term culture, letting traditional culture flow from their brushes.

探春 Exploring Spring
![]()
"Eggs are pretty when Spring Equinox comes." The most fun activity is the egg-standing experiment. Students carefully tried to balance eggs on desks. After many tries, they shared tips and adjusted the center of gravity. Cheers erupted as eggs stood steadily. They experienced a traditional custom while exploring the scientific principle—on Spring Equinox, the Earth's axis is relatively balanced.

Celebrating Spring

Students became little docents, introducing Spring Equinox poems and cultural meanings in Chinese and English. Their confident voices brought solar term culture to life, allowing them to appreciate the profound charm of Chinese culture through language.
品春 Tasting Spring

As the Spring Equinox arrives, spring vegetables are fresh. With parents' help, children cooked seasonal dishes. Everyone savored the taste of spring, as well as the joy and satisfaction of their own labor.

The Spring Equinox is not just a moment of natural balance—it embodies the ancient Chinese wisdom of “harmony between heaven and humanity.” When day and night find perfect balance, spring reaches its glorious midpoint. May we cherish this season and grow strong.
